10 Big Events in Indianapolis in 2012

Indianapolis is a great place to live. 2012 will bring a lot of people to the city for major sporting events and festivals. Here’s a list of the highlights for next year!

1. Super Bowl Village in Downtown - starts January 27
Indianapolis' Super Bowl Village will transform the heart of Downtown into a ten-day, three-block interactive festival of football. Tens of thousands of NFL fans from the surrounding region will celebrate in the multi-sensory excitement and thrill of "all things football" in the Village amid world-class restaurants, eclectic bars, special attractions and diverse retail options.

2. Super Bowl - February 5
Lucas Oil Stadium, the home of the Indianapolis Colts, will serve as the home of Super Bowl XLVI on Feb. 5, 2012. This will be the first Super Bowl held in Indianapolis!

3. Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament - March 1-4
The women's tournament takes to the hard court at Conseco Fieldhouse for 10 games over 4 days.

4. Big Ten Men’s Basketball Tournament - March 8-11
The countdown is underway to another celebration of Big Ten Basketball. The 2012 Big Ten Men's Basketball Tournament returns to the hoops capital of Indianapolis and the world's finest basketball facility at Conseco Fieldhouse.   

5. Indy 500 Festival - Mini Marathon - May 5
The 36th Running of the OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon takes place on Saturday, May 5, 2012.  The Mini has sold-out for the past nine years with 35,000 registrants, and an additional 4,000 participants in the Finish Line 500 Festival 5K. The Mini-Marathon is the largest half-marathon in the U.S., and overall, the seventh largest running event in America. The 2011 event sold out on December 28, 2010.Indiana Black Expo - July

6. Indiana Black Expo - July 16-22
Join the thousands who will flock to downtown Indy to take part in the dazzling array of events, performances, exhibits, business seminars, job fairs, health fairs, health screenings and children’s activities that will delight, inform and inspire all ages.

7. Indiana State Fair - August 3-9
Celebrating the Year of the Dairy Cow!

8. Monument Circle Oktoberfest - September 21
The north half of Monument Circle will go German to usher in the fall season with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the restoration of the Soldiers and Sailors Monument. Enjoy brats, burgers and beer with music and laughs from Polkaboy on the steps of the monument.

9. Circle City Classic - October 5-6
The 29th annual Circle City Classic weekend is a celebration of cultural excellence and educational achievement while showcasing the spirit, energy and tradition of America's historically black colleges and universities.

The Classic draws an average of 175,000 people from across the country annually to be a part of an electrifying weekend that includes a spectacular parade, pep rally, musical performances, well-known celebrities, a battle of the bands and two historically black college football teams colliding head-to-head in Lucas Oil Stadium.

10. Big 10 Championship Football Game - December 1
The Big Ten Football Championship Game will feature the champion of the Legends Division facing the champion of the Leaders Division, with the winner earning the Big Ten Championship and a chance to play in either the Rose Bowl Game or Bowl Championship Series National Championship Game.

Legends Division Teams: Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Nebraska and Northwestern.
Leaders Division: Illinois, Indiana, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue and Wisconsin.
